The best places for you and your kids in Copenhagen
Copenhagen is a very child-friendly city with tons of parks, playgrounds, museums and other experiences that cater to the little ones. Tired of being home with your kids that are either too loud and wild or glued to their screens watching movies or playing games? Take them out for a fun experience that they as well as you will enjoy.
Here are some alternative and fun ideas and places for you and your kiddos to explore Copenhagen.
Creative Space – paint your pottery
Gammel Kongevej 154, Frederiksberg & Kastelsvej 1, Østerbro
At Creative Space, that is half a cafe half a creative space (pun intended!), you get to choose your favorite kind of pottery and paint it your way. There are tons of pottery to choose from – from vases to plates, mugs, and platters. Once you’ve picked your pottery, you’re ready to paint. Creative Space offers all colors of the rainbow, so let out your inner artist.
Once you’ve finished your masterpiece of pottery, you leave your pottery at the cafe for them to glaze and burn. A week later, you’re ready to pick up your pottery. It’s an experience that’s fun and memorable for your kids as well as yourself.
Remisen – indoor playground
Blegdamsvej 132, Østerbro
Are your kids all about the playgrounds but the weather is cold and rainy and doesn’t allow a date with an outdoor playground? Fear not – head to Remisen, a fun indoor playground. Remisen is located inside the former tram depot. The playground is for kids in the age of 0-12 years. It features a huge pirate ship, slides, pillows as well as toys and creative spaces for the kids to play and have fun.
Frilandsmuseet – live museum from the old days
Kongevejen 100, Lyngby
This outdoor live museum, Frilandsmuseet, built as an old city is one of the largest and oldest museums of its kind in the world. The museum displays the “old Denmark” with buildings, houses, and rooms that are furnished decorated as they used to be 100 years ago. The museum also features theater shows, volunteer actors that make the museum real as well as animals to pet.
The entrance is 70 dkk for a grown-up with a child. Children under 18 can visit free of charge.
Tivoli – magical amusement park
Vesterbrogade 3, Copenhagen center
Visiting Tivoli is a must when in Copenhagen. The amusement park is located in the center of Copenhagen and is the second oldest of its kind in the world, with Bakken north of Copenhagen taking the first place. The park is open different times year-round with different themes such as Halloween, Christmas, and Easter as well as all summer long.
Besides fun rides and rollercoasters, Tivoli features ballet and theater shows as well as great shops, cafes and restaurants.
Rundetårn – climb the tower
Købmagergade 52a, Copenhagen center
41,5 meters tall and built-in 1642 by King Christian the IV, the Round Tower, the oldest functionary observatory tower in Europe, is a historical site as well as a fun experience for kids and grown-ups alike. What’s unique about the tower is that there are no stairs. The tower was built for horse carriages, so climbing to the top involves walking (or running!) up the spiral cobblestone slope. The view from the top is spectacular, and on a good day, you’re able to see all of Copenhagen.
BonBon Ice – Fresh & Homemade ice cream

This cosy place has a huge variety of ice cream flavours which would definitely be favoured by kids: from salty caramel and key lime cheesecake to mint stracciatella and Aperol spritz sorbet – all served with freshly baked cones. Bonbon ice cream is made of eco-friendly and organic ingredients and the owners do not compromise on quality there. They also host kids’ birthday parties with catering and workshops on how to make and paint waffles.
